At a very young age, I loved anything pertaining to fashion. It became the manner by which I expressed my individuality. I always had a unique style that included my hairstyles. Hindsight — that was a scary thought!

In grade school, I studied home economics and learned how to sew. My mother purchased a sewing machine for my sister and me and I made a lot of my own clothes. I made denim skirts out of old pairs of jeans and used pieces from old quilts and other fabric to close off the center.

Although I loved sewing and the finished product, I did not enjoy the process of laying, pinning and cutting the fabric, nor did I have a knack for drawing. Still in pursuit of my love for fashion, in my mid-twenties, I enrolled at FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) in New York City to study buying and merchandising for a few semesters.

In 2004, while working full-time for a well-known Wall Street bank, I took a leap of faith and ventured into entrepreneurship. I opened what was then called, Accessories by Lady Dy located in Montclair, New Jersey. Aside from pursuing my personal dream to own my own business, many of my friends, family and colleagues complimented my unique sense of style; and these became my motivations and inspirations for Accessories by Lady Dy. As the name implies, I sold women’s accessories — fashion jewelry, handbags, hats, scarves, etc. Women loved my accessory selections, and I was using my buying and merchandise experience and my love for fashion.

Unfortunately, after a few years, I was forced to close the business due to the obligations to my full-time career. However, I never abandoned the dream. It was only deferred. I vowed to own my own business again and now I’ve kept that vow! Hence, Lady Dy Impressions.
